Our Reasons...
After much debate, not to mention frustration, we decided to run our own registry.

We had selected Hechts... (a.k.a. Strawbridges) because we could register items that we wanted most (many of which they had) in a free style format. This would also allow us to list a few items that they did not have. Thus we set about selecting and carefully noting the items that we would really like, or will eventually buy for ourselves.

We even made up a very simple spreadsheet... following their layout to make it easier for the "Registry Lady" to enter tha data. (Note: we asked if they could take a digital copy...but they weren't set up for that.)

Finally, finally we made time to get the list over to have it "Officially" entered... only to find out that they've changed their system. Now they can only register for "scanned" items - items that they actually stock. It had been for this very reason that we had decided against the other places available.

Bummer!

So - in place of the `go to several stores for various lists and then shop around method' we are providing the registry service on the WWW (web) for our family and friends.

For those of you who DON'T have web access... we are providing contacts who do have the list and can send you a copy or can update the registry for you to include your gift. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we felt that this was better than trying to register at three or four places just for a few items each.

Thus ends our rant against the commercial registries out there...
